A MESSAGE FROM SUPERINTENDENT AMII THOMPSON

Hello BISD Community,

Congratulations, we have made it to the finish line of what feels like three years in one! I think back to our hopeful and happy start to this school year when many of us remarked that it felt like the most “typical” start to the school year post-COVID. Little did we know that we were about to navigate a sharp detour straight into a budget crisis and closure/consolidation chaos. Then, in December, there was a sudden change in leadership, followed by School Consolidation Advisory Committee meetings, the eventual end to closure/consolidation discussions, and then the last few months, being propelled into the unearthing of massive systems needs as we work tirelessly to right our school district budget.
Through all of the twists and turns of the past 179 days, and now, as we look forward to the blissful days of summer and to the 2024-25 school year, I have unwavering hope for what lies ahead. This hope is, in large part, due to each of you and the belief that together, we can make the world better—both in our little corner of the world in BISD and in the wider world around us.
I have seen how you all show up when we need you most, using your skills, time, energy, and voice to participate in district-level committee work, create magical experiences for our students such as field days, the 8th Grade Banquet, field trips, jog-a-thons, and school celebrations, and support our schools with the tremendous voter turnout for our levies.
What makes BISD so immensely special are the people who come together to create our community — our students, our staff and you.
Thank you for your continued support and trust in me these past six months. I wish you a few months free of the morning hustle and full of connectedness, happiness, and recharge!
Take good care,
Amii

WAY TO GO, GRADUATES!

Try as it might (and oh boy, did it try!), the rain could not dampen Saturday's graduation ceremony for the Class of 2024
It was a moving and memorable event filled with inspiring speeches, fantastic performances, and sun breaks in the midst of downpours. Watch a recording of the ceremony at www.bisd303.org/graduation

Thank you to the 52% of you who have completed the process! For the remaining 48%, please take a moment to cross this off your to-do list.

HAPPENING AROUND BISD

MURAL @ x̌alilc

This is a sneak peek at the stunning artwork in progress at x̌alilc Elementary. What was once a blank long hallway has become a tribute to the school community. Be prepared for lots of ooohs....and ahhhhhs. Extra special thanks to local artist Toma Villa for the vision and expertise.

SAKAI CHOIR PERFORMANCE AT MARINERS GAME
Last Monday's Mariners game opened with a fantastic performance of the National Anthem by the Sakai choir. These singers set the stage for a magical night because, in the bottom of the 9th inning, Cal Raleigh hit a game-winning GRAND SLAM. Coincidence? We think not! If the Mariners make it to the playoffs this season, the Sakai Choir should be the first ones the team calls to help guarantee a win!
