Dear Ordway Families,

Art class is a wonderful place for students to use creative and critical thinking to solve visual problems. This winter, Ordway students are focusing on the question, “How do artists use their art to tell stories?”

Kindergarten and 1st grade artwork includes stories of what gets created in factories (inspired by Richard Scary), what happens within three-dimensional paper “amusement parks”, and who exists in underground tunnels during hibernation. 2nd graders have been designing stick puppets, developing puppetry stories, and performing their tales for classmates. After learning basic comic tricks and how to abstract simple characters, 3rd graders have invented and shared their own comics. 4th graders studied artist Nick Cave’s work before creating their own soundsuits; these suits tell stories of personal interests and reference places they love. 

It has been wonderful to see these amazing stories come alive on paper and in three dimensions!

Ordway students whose families are experiencing or have experienced separation, divorce, or remarriage may find that these family changes generate strong feelings that interfere with schoolwork, social adjustment, and friendships. While some children experience sadness, it is also common for students to withdraw or act out in anger.

It is often helpful for students to meet with other children experiencing similar feelings and talk with someone who is not emotionally involved in the family changes. Ordway Counselor Janette Dodge will be offering groups for students in first through fourth grade. These groups will meet once a week for six weeks during lunchtime and will begin the first week of March.

El Velero Kindergarten Information Night is this week!! Wednesday 2/4 at 6 pm. El Velero program is accepting Lottery Applications for incoming Kindergarteners. Interested in other grades please refer to our webpage.

🚌 Transportation Update: BusRight Launch Coming Soon!

We’re excited to share that we are launching the BusRight app and look forward to providing families with a new tool that offers greater visibility and real-time updates for student transportation.

Activations emails have been sent to families. Please check your inbox for next steps.

Families of bus riders will receive an activation email with simple, step-by-step instructions to set up their BusRight account and begin using the app once the system is live.
