From the Principal

Hello Bulldog Families,

I hope this message finds you well! Thank you for your continued partnership in making our Blakely community strong. I'd like to share with everyone that we hosted an island wide Kindergarten Information Night at Blakely last Thursday evening and the excitement of welcoming a new group of students and families into BISD was energizing! Thank you for being part of Blakely and the Bainbridge Island School District. Below are two quick updates I'd like to share, thank you for reading.

Attendance:
We want our students here learning and doing hard things every day! However, when students are seriously sick, it's important they rest and recover at home. As a reminder, students should stay home if they have experienced any of the following within the last 24 hours:
  • Fever
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
If your child has minor or mild symptoms like the ones below, they are are fine to attend school:
  • Cough
  • Runny nose
  • Headache
  • Other minor discomforts
We want to ensure that everyone is healthy while continuing to support our students doing hard things, taking risks and building resilience. Your partnership in making these decisions helps our entire community stay well while ensuring students don't miss valuable learning opportunities.

Volunteer Checks:
We absolutely love and appreciate our parent volunteers who make Blakely such a special place! Before volunteering in any capacity—whether in classrooms, at school wide events, or on field trips—all families must complete and be approved through the school district's volunteer process.
Please check with the office ahead of time to confirm your volunteer status is current and approved. This helps us maintain a safe environment for all students while welcoming your valuable contributions to our school community.

Thank you for your continued support of Blakely Elementary!

Sam Cameron, Principal

Coming Soon: Real-Time Bus Tracking for Families

We’re excited to announce a new partnership with BusRight, a school transportation technology company, to improve safety, efficiency, and communication in our bus system. The BusRight Parent App allows parents and guardians to track their child’s bus route in real time — right from their phone.

What this means for families:
Parents of bus riders will be able to create an account to view live bus locations, stop arrival time estimates, route details, and more.

When will it be available?
Families will receive an email THIS week with instructions on how to download the app and activate their account. The system will officially launch on February 2nd.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to transportation at 206-842-4641 with any questions. We’re looking forward to providing families with greater visibility and peace of mind in our student transportation system.

Volunteers are needed to make this event happen - we would love to have your help either signing up directly or helping to spread the word! Unfortunately if we don't get enough volunteers we will have to postpone or cancel the event.

Girls on the Run - Coaches Needed!
Coaches are needed for the Blakely Girls on the Run team! No coaching or running experience is required. All the tools, training, and support needed to lead a team through an amazing 10-week session are provided! Share 4 hours a week to make a difference that lasts a lifetime.

Girls on the Run is a place where caring volunteer coaches give 3rd-5th grade girls a space to laugh, move, and grow. Through our new curriculum Hello, Bold Heart!, coaches lead girls in learning to share what's in their hearts, cheer each other on, build confidence, and reach goals at their own pace. Each practice blends movement, connection, and fun - helping girls grown strong in body, mind, and heart.

Learn more or sign up to coach at www.gotrws.org. Questions? Contact Leslie at 360.265.1031 or email leslie.hughes@girlsontherun.org
