Enrichment Class Happenings

Dear Ordway Families,

Every three weeks, all students in grades K–4 participate in a 40- to 50-minute enrichment lesson. Lessons integrate both math and language arts, with activities that focus on:

  • Multi-tiered learning experiences
  • Developing problem-solving abilities
  • Delving deeper into grade-level skills
  • Encouraging out-of-the-box thinking
  • Reinforcing social-emotional skills
Younger students have been building magic squares using unique shapes, piecing together tessellation puzzles, creating star polygons, designing with symmetry, and using 21st-century pattern blocks to explore new shapes. They have also built bridges with pennies, studied math in real-life situations, and practiced addition and subtraction using playing cards, among many other activities.

Older students have been exploring algorithms with Rubik’s cubes, learning Russian multiplication, discussing biomes and creating creatures, challenging math conjectures, and examining deep connections in mathematics. They have also investigated the mysterious property of inertia using gyroscopes, manipulated equations with broken calculators, created parabolic curves using x- and y-axes, practiced subtraction with Diffy Squares, and used geometry and spatial reasoning to build skyscrapers out of cubes.

As the school year progresses, students will continue to have more opportunities to think outside the box.

Happy New Year!
Laura Nelson, BISD Enrichment Coordinator

New Payment Option Now Available in the Office!

We are excited to share that our school office now has a credit card machine! Families can now conveniently pay fees, fines, and—most importantly—lunch balances right at the front desk.

Keeping lunch accounts current helps our food services staff source local ingredients, and this new payment option makes it easier than ever. We encourage families to check their child’s lunch account and take care of any outstanding balance before winter break. As always, families can pay online and we still accept cash and checks, but at school credit card payments provide another quick and secure way to take care of school-related costs.

Feel free to stop by the office to make a payment or check on your child’s account balance. We are happy to help!

Young People's March for Peace & Kindness

Families and students are invited to join the Young People’s March for Peace and Kindness on Monday, January 19 at the Bainbridge Public Library.

The morning will begin with letter writing from 10:30–11:15 a.m., followed by a march to the post office at 11:15 a.m. Participants are encouraged to bring signs and march together in support of peace, kindness, and youth voices in our community.
