Volunteer Opportunities

Sakai Reads
Sakai’s all-school book discussion groups takes place on Thursday, November 6th. This year’s theme is Expanding Perspectives. For more information and if you would like to lead a discussion group, please click here.

BISD Farm to School
Seeking volunteers November 6th from 11:20-12:40!

This Thursday, November 6th, BISD be running a taste test of a new scratch-cooked menu item at lunchtime! Our BISD Farm to School October Harvest of the Month feature is pumpkin (and November is apples!). We will feature a pumpkin curry for this taste test, and will set up a tasting and voting station in the cafeteria to offer the curry to all students. Volunteers will serve curry in compostable bamboo containers and ask all students to vote for if they'd like to have it on the lunch menu again. We are seeking volunteers for this taste test from 11:20-12:40 at Sakai. If you'd like to help, please email jessica.woersching@gmail.com

This taste test will:
  • Allow students an opportunity to taste something they haven’t already tried
  • Provide opportunity for authentic student input into the menu
  • Highlight a local farm and product-pumpkin!
  • Engage students and staff in the BISD farm to school program
  • Prototype taste tests to replicate at other schools

Please remember that all volunteers who help in the classroom, on field trips, and other various activities must be cleared by the district: Volunteering with BISD. The approval process can take up to two weeks. Once approved, you are ready to volunteer and your approval is valid for two years.

Please bring your driver's license or id each time you sign into any school in the district.

Recess Equipment Wishlist

If you have any gently used soccer or basketballs you’d like to donate, please consider donating them to Sakai. We could really use a few more for recess. You may drop them off in the office.

Thanks so much!

Yearbook Photos Needed

It’s never too early to start thinking about the Sakai Yearbook! We would love to get photos of your student throughout the year to include in the yearbook. That is why we are sending out this QR code to allow you to upload photos directly to the Sakai Josten’s Yearbook site anytime!

You can use this code all year to upload photos of your student participating in any and all activities such as first day of school photos, Halloween, sports and recreation, vacations, school activities and more! Thanks for helping to make this year’s Yearbook amazing!

Learn More about the EP&O Supplemental Levy

This levy helps bridge the gap between what the state funds and what it actually costs to provide the education our community values—supporting strong academics, creative opportunities, and the well-being of every student.

Proposed rate: $0.08 per $1,000 of assessed value in 2026, $0.11 in 2027, and $0.13 in 2028. Even with this addition, overall school taxes will decrease as older bond taxes expire.
