Thank you Ordway Otters!

The Otter Trot was a huge success! Thank you to our amazing PTO team - Katie Lesh, Christina Cielusniak, Camy Cohen, Amanda Lowell and Shane Ryerson for the planning, fundraising, day-of set up and last minute changes due to the rain. What a fun team to work with in support of our Ordway Otters!

STEM Updates

Dear Ordway Families!

All grade levels have been working on exciting projects this fall! Students have been collaborating with their teammates on a variety of STEM challenges. I hope your child has been sharing their STEM experiences with you!

Kindergarten students are learning about teamwork and engineering while building creative structures inspired by Fairy Tales. They’re exploring the structure and function of objects in these stories and connecting them to real-world items.

First grade has been exploring sound and light. Students have been learning about vibrations, how sounds are created, and how sound effects are made in movies. They’ve also been experimenting with making sounds using objects they created in STEM.

Second grade is studying how the Earth changes through the formation of mountains, rivers, and oceans. The students especially enjoyed creating a topographic map of mountains and simulating rainfall to observe how rivers form and flow.

Third grade is investigating invisible forces and how they impact real-world situations. One favorite project has been building paper bridges and testing their strength using pennies and washers. After this project, students will move on to exploring magnets through hands-on experiments.

Fourth grade students worked in teams to design and build an object that could protect an egg during a drop. They’re also diving into an energy unit, creating Rube Goldberg machines, and building Rubber Band Racers. This unit will culminate with an exciting roller coaster design challenge.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Jablonski
