Unity Day

Unity Day - Wear Orange

On Wednesday, Oct. 15th, students are invited to join national efforts and wear ORANGE, sending one, large, universal representation that we are united against bullying and united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion. The color orange provides a powerful expression of solidarity for bullying prevention. In the morning, students will participate in watching a Taproot Theater production sponsored by our generous PTO. This assembly is always a hit with kids, and coordinates well with my SEL classroom lessons teaching on recognizing, reporting & refusing bullying behavior.

Stopbullying.gov is a great resource to check out for useful information to augment your at-home discussions around the topic.

Move-a-thon!

Fundraising is happening NOW and culminates on Friday, October 24th, where our Orcas will move their bodies: jumping, dancing, skipping, and more!

No candy bar sales, no wrapping paper catalogs, this is our one big chance to fund all the amazing extras that make Halilts incredible! Go to https://go.rallyup.com/orcas25 or use our QR code to register your student(s) to create a personal donation page. You’ll then be able to share your student’s page link via email or social media.

Donations can be made online, by cash, or by check. Our goal is $85,000, which is about $260 per student. Some will do more, some will do less, but we are hoping for 100% participation. Every gift makes a difference!

Come cheer on your Orca!
Families are invited to attend the Move-a-thon and cheer for student(s).
  • 8:00-8:20 - 3rd Grade

Attendance Matters

October Attendance Focus: Building Habits & Routines

This month we’re highlighting the importance of healthy routines that support regular attendance. Families play a key role in helping students arrive at school ready to learn.

💤 Sleep Matters
  • Children and teens need 8–10 hours of sleep each night.
  • A regular bedtime helps students wake up rested and focused.
🍳 Start the Day with Breakfast
  • Breakfast gives students the energy they need to learn.
  • Even something small — fruit, toast, or yogurt — makes a big difference.
⏰ Create a Morning Routine
  • Pack backpacks, lunches, and clothes the night before to reduce stress.
  • Consistent routines make mornings smoother for everyone.
🏫 Arrive On Time, Every Day
  • Showing up on time builds confidence and connection.
  • Missing just 2 days a month adds up to nearly a month of lost learning in a school year.

👉 Every day counts! When students come to school rested, prepared, and on time, they build strong habits for life.

Levy Information

Supplemental EP&O Levy

Want to understand what BISD’s Supplemental Educational Programs & Operations (EP&O) Levy means for our schools and community? Visit our Levy Information Webpage or join an upcoming Zoom information session to get all the details.

Every day in BISD, students are supported by strong academics, creative opportunities, and staff who care for their whole well-being. This levy helps bridge the gap between what the state funds and what it actually costs to provide the education our community values.

The proposed rate is $0.08 per $1,000 of assessed value in 2026$0.11 in 2027, and $0.13 in 2028—and even with this addition, overall school taxes will decrease as older bond taxes expire.
