Principal's Message

Dear Sakai Families,

I hope you all enjoyed the wonderful sunshine this weekend! We are really heading into the home stretch and there is a lot going on right now. Last Friday our Choir did an absolutely amazing job at their Spring performance. And, we are looking forward to our Band students concert tomorrow night!

Again, here are some important dates to note:
  • June 11: Band Concert at Sakai (6:45 for 5th and 7:50 for 6th)
  • June 12 and 13: 6th grade tours Woodward (during school day)
  • June 19: No school for Juneteenth
  • June 20: 6th grade Celebration and 5th grade Field Day
  • June 23: Last day of school with an 11:55 dismissal (no lunch served)

I want to take another moment and say thank you to our wonderful volunteers! From helping in the library, hanging artwork, supervising field trips and events, or leading book groups, the donation of your time means a lot to us and our students. We appreciate you so much! I want to give a very heartfelt thank you to Magda and Erica, our PTO Co-Presidents for really stepping up and leading us to a very successful year. Also to Brandi and Lara for their support on our PTO Board. Teresa, Sarah, Annie, and Megan, thank you for stepping up into key roles that ran all year. We appreciate the time and talent you gave to our school this year!

Yesterday in COHO students wrote letters. 5th-graders wrote to their 6th-grade teachers and 6th-graders wrote to their future selves (they will be given their letter back at the end of 8th grade). Both of these letter formats incorporate reflection and goal setting. This week's Family Dare is to write a note to someone who has helped your student grow this year. It could be a teacher, para, bus driver, coach, family member, neighbor…the possibilities are endless. This moment of gratitude and reflection will help your student reflect on all their success this year.

I hope you have a wonderful week, Sakai!

Drew

To the Parents of Future 7th Graders

If you have a student moving up to 7th grade, please read the following information.

In Washington State, the Tdap vaccine is required for school attendance on or before the start of 7th grade (RCW 28A.210.080). The Tdap is a booster vaccine which continues to protect your child against the tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis diseases they were immunized against as a young child.

To update your child’s Tdap immunization (or other vaccine) record at the school, you will need to turn in a medically verified immunization record. Your child’s health care provider can print this for you, or you can print it from MyIRMobile, which is a free Department of Health online tool that allows families to view and print their official immunization records themselves. Go here for more information on accessing your families immunization information.

For more information on Washington State immunization requirements, please visit School and Child Care Immunization Information for Families

Please feel free to contact the Woodward health room if you have any questions: (206) 780-4511

WMS Summer Reading 2025-2026
Incoming 7th Graders

To encourage a love of reading, we invite all middle school students to read at least one to two books and participate in Kitsap Regional Library’s (KRL) Summer Learning program. Summer learning at KRL is a fun opportunity to discover new books, enjoy our local library, and participate in engaging summer activities. This summer reading is an opportunity for you to choose your own books.

To participate in the KRL summer learning program:
  1. June 1st- Pick up a summer reading tracker in your English class, school library, or at the Bainbridge branch of Kitsap Regional Library. You can also sign up in class if a KRL librarian visits your ELA class or school library.
  2. Read 10 hours. Fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, manga, ebooks all count for your hours.
  3. Bring your completed tracker to the Bainbridge KRL branch by August 31st to show that you have finished. We will take care of the rest! Turn in your tracker when you are done.
  • You can pick out a free book if you read for 10 hours.
  • If you read 10 hours and decide to read more for the 100 hours, bring your tracker in to be checked and turn it in when you are done. If you read 100 hours, you can get the free limited edition shirt.
At the end of summer, arrive at school with a list of the books you read. List the title and author for each one.
WMS Athletes 2025-2026
Incoming 7th Graders

Is your student planning to play school sports next year? Don’t wait—Summer is the ideal time to get those sports physicals done! Pediatrician offices fill up fast in the fall as students in grades 7–12 rush to get cleared. Completing this early means your athlete will be ready to go from Day 1!
Important note for Woodward Track and Field athletes: The season kicks off on the first day of school, so make sure all registration and forms are completed ahead of time to ensure your student is ready to participate right away!

All forms and registration must be completed before a student can participate in practice or competition.

Forms:
The Sport Physical Form stays with your student’s doctor.
The Medical Eligibility Form gets uploaded to your student’s Final Forms registration. These are valid for 2 years.

Registration:
  • Woodward Athletics registration can be completed on the WMS website through Final Forms. Further instructions can be found here
  • Registration will open June 9th.

Annual Back to School Check-In

Annual Back-to-school Check-in (ABC)

The Annual Back-to-school Check-in (ABC) process is now open. This annual process lets us know that your student(s) are returning to our schools for 2025-26 and allows parents/guardians to review annual information.

The ABCs must be completed* for all students attending BISD schools in 2025-26, including both new and returning students. Access the ABCs by logging into your Family Access account. It should take about 15 minutes (or less!) to complete.

If you need assistance with the ABC process (such as translation, accessing technology, or other questions), please get in touch with our office.

NOT RETURNING? If your current K-11th grade student is not returning to BISD schools next fall, please let our office know.

*Student class placement/class schedules will not be released in August until the ABCs are completed. But why delay? Go ahead and take care of it today!
