Amii Thompson

Dear BISD Community,

I hope you’re finding moments of calm during this incredibly busy time of year.

I wanted to share an update on our progress toward the new BISD Strategic Plan, scheduled for implementation in the 2026–27 school year. Below is a brief overview of our work so far and what’s ahead.

Who Is Leading This Work
The Strategic Plan Steering Committee (SPSC) is composed of staff, parent, community, and Board representatives. Committee Roster

Work Completed to Date
  • Reviewed our current District Improvement Plan
  • Conducted a comprehensive SWOT analysis across internal data sets.
  • Examined key resources, including BISD policies, action items from the current DIP, recent legislation, and relevant educational trends
  • Developed an initial Draft 1 of the Mission, Vision, Guiding Principles (values), Focus Areas, and Objectives
  • Gathered early feedback from building and district administrators and from the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (grades 9–12)
  • Note: The Steering Committee will review Draft 1 and provide additional feedback during the 1/7/26 meeting.

Work Still Ahead
  • Develop measurable Goals and Action Steps for Draft 1
  • Create a detailed implementation plan to accompany all goals
  • Offer February stakeholder feedback opportunities using a shared review protocol, including:
  • BISD Committees
  • Staff meetings (in person & Zoom)
  • Student feedback opportunities (K–12)
  • Board meeting presentation
  • Community meetings (in person & Zoom)
  • Analyze and incorporate February feedback
  • Prepare a Final Draft and provide March feedback opportunities using the same protocol
  • Finalize the 5-year BISD Strategic Plan
  • Present the plan to the School Board for approval in May 2026
  • Conduct implementation planning (June–August 2026)
  • Begin full implementation in September 2026
This is a highly collaborative and comprehensive process, and I am deeply grateful to the committee for their thoughtful work. I also appreciate the feedback we’ve received so far and look forward to engaging with staff, students, and our wider BISD community in the months ahead.

Wishing you a wonderful rest of your week,
Amii

Bike Safety

Be Seen, Be Safe: Reflective Gear for Students on Bikes

As the days get shorter, we want to remind families how important it is for students to be visible while biking to and from school. Please encourage your rider to wear reflective clothing or accessories, such as reflective bands, vests, stickers, or lights on backpacks and bikes. These simple additions make a big difference, especially during early mornings, late afternoons, and rainy winter weather.

Thank you for helping us keep our students safe on their commute!

BSF Fill the Library Shelves

Help Fill BISD Schools' Library Shelves!

Bainbridge Schools Foundation is raising funds to refresh library collections at all seven schools. Many shelves need new, engaging books that reflect student interests, celebrate diverse voices, and support a wide range of reading levels.

Families can choose to support a specific school directly or select “Fill Every Shelf” to make a greatest-need gift. Every contribution helps bring new books into our libraries and into the hands of students.

Here’s what your gift can do:
• $10 adds a new book
• $50 builds a small stack
• $100 creates a book bundle
• $250 fills a library shelf

Farm to School Update

Farm to School Update

School gardens are a key component of our farm to school program, providing an outdoor classroom that grows fresh, tasty treats for students and adds beauty to our BISD campuses.

As the year comes to a close, we enter a quiet season for our school gardens, though the last few months these were busy spaces! This was demonstrated through the BHS Garden Club, where students have been busy developing a lovely garden behind Memorial Stadium.
This space is a habitat for pollinators and is an engaging outdoor area where students gain hands-on experience in horticulture. Students collected cardboard and shoveled mulch to create paths, built and installed garden beds, and have grown vegetables used in the culinary class.

This project happened with much community support—read more about it here.

Our farm to school team wishes you a restful holiday season, just as our gardens take a winter break! Check out our potato soup recipe here for winter cooking inspiration.
