Dear BHS Community,
As you know the Bainbridge Island School District’s athletic programs have been put on hold since last March. We have been following our Washington State Risk Management Pool (WSRMP) and Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s (WIAA) guidance to bring back sports with Covid – 19 sport specific safety protocols in place once our county hits Phase 3. We have been poised all summer long to train coaches and athletes on those protocols. As you are well aware, that has yet to happen as Kitsap County and our surrounding counties remain in Phase 2.
We are dedicated to bringing BHS Athletics back in a safe manner as soon as we can. We know that you’ve seen private entities practicing, and possibly even competing, throughout the summer. This is difficult to watch knowing that Bainbridge Island School District has postponed all athletics. For all students, and especially our seniors, please know that we want to bring athletics back safely so that all can experience the health and well-being that sports provide.
WIAA has created an “out of season” workout period from 9/28 – 11/30 to take the place of our summer workouts that we missed. Again, most sports need to be in Phase 3 for safe modified workouts to occur. The Phase 2 sports that we plan on with modified workouts during this time are Tennis, Cross Country, Track, and Golf.
The 2020-2021 Seasons have been readjusted by WIAA. You can find those seasons here, WIAA MODIFIED Sports Season Calendar. Please note: This is a tentative calendar and it is subject to change. Also, BHS and the Metro League are not participating in any of the alternate Season 1 sports. Those sports seasons are planned for later in Season 3 and Season 4 as noted on the WIAA calendar.
We will keep you updated as more information becomes available. Thank you, and be safe.
