Bus driver shortage -- NOW HIRING DRIVERS!
Like school districts across the state and country, BISD is experiencing a bus driver shortage. This article explains the challenges.
The BISD Transportation Team has worked very hard to remedy the staff shortage. Many are taking on additional shifts, our route scheduler and bus mechanic pick up extra routes almost daily, and the transportation department is working to address the short and long-term challenges.
-
BISD is working with our labor partners to develop additional compensation incentives to recruit and retain bus drivers
-
Transportation staff are analyzing routes to determine if there can be further consolidation and/or re-routing to reduce the number of bus drivers needed per day
-
We have one driver who is nearly complete with their training, and we hope to have that driver working later this spring
-
HR has posted bus driver positions in multiple locations including local papers, and other hiring platforms. They also plan on doing more targeted recruiting to appeal to people who live in the area.
Please reach out to your school principal or office manager if you have difficulty getting your student to/from school due to route cancelations — they can provide some creative problem-solving.
In the meantime, please spread the word that BISD is hiring bus drivers —- specifically those with a Class B license. However, BISD also offers training and would love to talk with anyone interested in becoming a driver.
