School Board Director Sheila Jakubik steps down from the Bainbridge School District Board

Bainbridge Island School District Board Member Sheila Jakubik resigned from the school board, effective April 16, 2019. In her letter of resignation she wrote, “As my kids are entering the college years, I have been reflecting with my family for the right time to pursue professional opportunities. Because most educational opportunities are posted in the spring and to allow me to follow my passion for education and desire to serve in schools, it became apparent this was the most appropriate time to resign. In order to make sure there is no conflict of interest, I believe it is important to resign before I apply for any positions posted in the district.”

Since joining the board in 2013, Jakubik has been a steadfast member. During her service, Bainbridge Island School District has been successful in passing millions of dollars worth of levies for Educational Programs & Operations, Technology and Capital Projects, as well as passing the bond to replace Blakely Elementary and the 100 Building at Bainbridge High School. In addition, under her guidance, BISD has made a strong investment in social-emotional health as well as increasing educational options for our students. Jakubik’s impact on our district will be long-lasting!

“It has been a pleasure to work with Sheila over these past six years,” said Superintendent Peter Bang-Knudsen. “Her student-centric mindset, inquisitiveness and welcoming personality will be greatly missed.”
