BHS English teacher presented at the Northwest Council for Computer Education Conference

At NCCE's recent conference in Portland, OR, English teacher Noah Barfield gave a presentation entitled Diving Deep: A Mindful Investigation of Nicholas Carr's The Shallows
For the past five years, Barfield has run an extra-credit seminar on Nicholas Carr's book The Shallows: What The Internet Is Doing To Our Brains. At the end of each seminar, Barfield encouraged the students to participate in a 1-2 week "technology blackout" and asked students to reflect on their experiences.
During his presentation, Barfield discussed the cognitive, emotional, and cultural impact of living in a 24/7 technology-immersed world, as well as the impacts and advantages of taking deliberate technology time-outs.
