  • Sakai Reads is our yearly all-school reading event.

This year the theme is Expanding Perspectives. Ten titles have been selected and each student is reading one. Learn more about the books at the Sakai Reads webpage.
Wednesday, November 3rd has been selected for the all school discussion event. Volunteers are needed to read a book and lead a discussion group.
All volunteers must have completed our district's application process outlined here:
All volunteers must review the COVID-19  Safety Handbook, complete the COVID-19 quiz and verify their COVID vaccinations are completed.  Even if a volunteer is "active" they are still required to complete these new additions prior to volunteering.
Please wait to sign up until you have completed this process.

  • Washington State Healthy Youth Survey 2021

Our school district is participating in the Washington State Healthy Youth Survey during the fall of 2021. The survey will be given to students at Sakai in 6th grade on Monday, October 25th.

The Healthy Youth Survey includes questions related to physical activity and diet, unintentional and intentional injury, substance use, abuse, risk and protective factors, and access to school-based services. Survey results are used by schools, communities and state agencies to plan programs to support our youth and reduce their risks.

Participation in the survey is voluntary and the students’ answers are anonymous.

Please read the Parent and Student Notification Letter, english version and spanish version, for more information about the Healthy Youth Survey.

Reach out to Beth Hebert - the Healthy Youth Coordinator if you have any questions at 206-780-6506.

  • Return to Learn Handbook

In preparation for bringing students to school, BISD has created a Return to Learn Handbook with a high-level overview of the many ways BISD has modified operational practices to keep schools as safe as possible.

The handbook was developed using the guidance outlined in the Washington State Department of Health's K-12 COVID-19 Requirements for Summer 2021 and the 2021-2022 School Year, dated August 11, 2021. BISD believes in following the science related to COVID safety protocols. We are confident in the recommendations from our Washington State and Kitsap County Health Departments, and we have incorporated their mandates and recommendations into our district's reopening plan.

  • Attestation Form
The Centers for Disease Control recommends that schools do not conduct daily symptom screening for K-12 students due to the ineffectiveness of on-site screening. Instead, the CDC encourages guardians to monitor their children for symptoms of infectious illness every day through home-based symptom screening prior to sending the student to school.

GUARDIANS: Please complete this form attesting that you will monitor your child(ren) daily for symptoms of illness (including taking their temperature) and not send them to school when ill.

PLEASE NOTE: School health rooms are very diligent and will send students home if they are exhibiting signs of illness.
