About Me

I get a great deal of joy and satisfaction helping students understand topics they initially perceive as complicated, and dispelling rumors that chemistry is “really hard.” I know how it gets that reputation, because I barely passed it in high school. I hope my unfortunate experience back then helps students, because it taught me where the challenges lie in this course and where to direct others so they avoid the pitfalls. My goal is for all my students to gain an understanding and appreciation for the miraculous universe we inhabit, and those extremely tiny little particles called atoms that hold it all together. Along the way, I hope what they learn inspires them to continue a lifetime of learning, and maybe even a career in science!

I've taught for over 20 years in variety of grade levels. Prior to teaching I spent my twenties working as a professional actor, which means I also waited tables & cooked in restaurants. My first job out of college was as a leadership consultant for Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

I am the proud father of three sons (ages 12, 15, and 19) who live with me part-time. I also have two cats and two dogs. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with family & friends, reading, writing, listening to music, photography, gardening, playing board games, watching sports, and staying physically & emotionally fit.

I was born & raised in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio called Bexley, and have lived in the Puget Sound region for over 20 years.
