Thanks to a grant from Bainbridge Schools Foundation, Wilkes art students have some new scientific equipment to use in art class. We are blending STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and art activities, turning STEM into STEAM. Students are also learning thinking tools used by the world's most creative people, starting with OBSERVATION.
Students practiced observation by using jeweler's loops to explore tiny details in invertebrates, shells and plants. They looked slowly and carefully at cicadas, silk worms, centipedes, lambs' ear, sea urchin shells, etc., and sketched in a journal. Next students used one of their sketches to create a styrofoam/watercolor pen print.
