Principal’s Message
August 2022
Dear Sakai Intermediate Families,
I am excited to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year! For those of you returning to us, welcome back! For those of you new to our school, I think you will find Sakai an extraordinary place for your child to grow and learn.
My name is Drew Crandall and I am the principal of Sakai Intermediate School. I have been in education for 18 years as a principal, assistant principal, instructional coach and teacher. My wife and I are originally from Michigan and moved to Bainbridge Island nine years ago after living in Seattle for many years. We have two children in the Bainbridge Island School District, a 6th-grader and a 2nd-grader. As a family we enjoy camping, skiing, playing pickleball, cheering on the Sounders, and walking our dog, Juno. I love living on Bainbridge Island and getting the opportunity to serve our community.
This will be my third year at Sakai, and feel very fortunate to be working with such thoughtful, caring, and supportive staff, families and students. After several years of disrupted learning environments, we are hopeful that this year will be a continual return to normalcy. Of course, we will still continue to partner with the Kitsap Health Department on health guidance for student safety. Whatever this year brings, you can be assured that the care and intentionality our staff provide to our students will look the same as it always has at Sakai. To stay informed, please take a moment to read through our newsletter each Monday for news, updates and alerts to upcoming events. You can also find each weeks newsletter here on our site.
At Sakai, our goal is to provide a caring and collaborative learning environment for your child. We take the responsibility of educating your student seriously and with great intention. Education is a partnership and I greatly look forward to working with you to ensure a high level of learning for your student this year. Your support is crucial to your student’s success.
Please know that my door is always open. I encourage you to contact me with any questions, concerns, or simply to introduce yourself.
I look forward to a wonderful year of growth and learning!
Drew Crandall
