  • PTO Rep Needed

Posted by Kathryn Hines on 8/11/2019

Our preschool class needs a PTO Rep.

Do you have a bit of time to give each month?  We need someone to attend PTO meetings (once/month, during the school day on a Friday) and send out a little synopsis to the class.  If you have time and are interested, please let Teacher Kathy know.

Thank you Dylan for taking on this role!

  • FAMILY LETTER

Posted by Kathryn Hund on 8/11/2019

Welcome to our 2019-20 Developmental Preschool at

    Captain Charles Wilkes Elementary School!

I hope your child is excited about beginning the school year... all of the anxieties about the “newness” will soon disappear and we will have a great time as we start learning our routines and making friends to enjoy throughout the year.

Conferences:  I hope to meet with each family prior to the start of the school year.  Conferences will be 20 minutes each, September 5th and 6th. Look for a sign up email from me soon!

What to Bring to School: Your child will need to bring a bag or backpack to school every day to carry home papers and projects from school. The backpack should be large enough to hold an 8.5 x 11 folder. Please check the contents of this backpack daily!  I will give each child a folder for notes that come from the office or me. This folder will be sent home on Fridays and should be returned every Tuesday. Also, please refer to the Nuts and Bolts sheet for additional classroom needs.

Daily Snacks:  Keeping our children fueled with healthy snacks is an important part of our day.  We share snack duties among families, with each family signing up for two weeks of snacks.  You will receive an invite to join our sign up genius group. We are hoping families will send healthy, fresh food for the week, enough to feed 14.  Snack ideas would be veggies, fruit, cheese, hummus, crackers, popcorn… just to name a few. Last year our favorite snack was sugar snap peas and carrots we grew in our garden!

Text:  Soon you be receiving an invite from the Remind App.  Please sign up to receive our classroom texts. I send out reminders about important events and no school days.

Communication between home and school: I love a “team approach” concerning your child’s education. We all have the same goal – for your child to be happy, challenged and secure at school. Email is the best way to reach me and I will return your emails the same day.  My email address is: khines@bisd303.org.  You are also always welcome to write me a note or leave me a voicemail 206-780-3028.

Volunteer: Our classroom has an open door policy and you are always welcome to stop by or volunteer to help in the classroom. If you (or a family member) wants to volunteer, please fill out the form on the school website.

If you have any questions or want to chat, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Together we will make your child’s school year the best ever!!

    Sincerely,

    Kathy Hines
