Degrees and Certifications:
Welcome to Sakai all you incredible 5th graders! I'm excited to have you as part of my math and science classes this year!
Here's a little bit about myself.....I'm a Northwest Washington native and have lived on Bainbridge Island for 20 years. I have a 22-year-old son who just graduated from Western Washington University, and an 18-year-old son who just graduated from BHS, and is starting his college studies at Colorado State University. I also have an 8-year-old black lab named Koda. Outside of school, I love to run or hike local trails, go boating on the sound, spend time with friends and family, and travel.
I graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, and then -- after working as a paraeducator while my kids were younger -- earned my Masters in Teaching from City University in 2011. Altogether, I've been working in the Bainbridge Island School District for over 13 years, with most of my time spent teaching 4th through 6th grades.
This year will certainly prove to be one for the history books as we all learn new ways of doing things. The most important thing to remember is that I'm here to help you learn things about the real world that is already all around you, at your fingertips -- even though we won't be in the classroom for a while. I look forward to traveling with you on your 5th-grade journey and hope you'll find lots of ways to be engaged, learn a lot of new skills, meet lots of new friends, and feel successful! We've got this!
