About Me: I love helping my students understand topics they initially perceive as difficult, and dispelling rumors that science is "boring", "really hard", and "only for smart kids." I know how it gets that reputation: I struggled with it in high school.
I hope my experiences in high school science help my students, because it taught me where the challenges are in these courses and how to avoid their pitfalls. My goal for every student is to see them to gain an understanding and appreciation for the miraculous universe we inhabit. Along the way, I hope to inspire them to be life-long learners, and maybe even pursue a career in a science-related profession!
I've taught for over 20 years at a variety of grade levels. Prior to entering the teaching profession, I spent my twenties working as a professional actor, which means I also worked in a lot of restaurants. My first job after graduating from college was as a leadership consultant for Phi Delta Theta fraternity. In addition, I've worked as an administrative assistant. Fact: all my previous employment experiences help me bring a well-rounded and real-world approach to the classroom.
I am the proud father of three sons (ages 14, 17, and 21) who live with me part-time. I also have two cats and a dog. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with family & friends, reading, listening to music, photography, gardening, and watching sports. I also play golf, board games & cards, and do my best to stay physically & emotionally fit.
This summer, my three sons and I went on a two-week roadtrip in my EV to California where we visited each of the five major league baseball stadiums.
I was born & raised in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio (Bexley), and have lived in the Puget Sound region since 1997.
My preferred pronouns are he/him/his.
