Laura Sparks
I was born in Walla Walla, Washington. My parents and brother still live there, so I visit whenever I can. My mother was an educator. I grew up being in a classroom helping her from the time I was very young. When she visits Bainbridge Island she often helps me with assessments and classroom activities. Now she helps me!
I attended college at Eastern Washington University with a major in reading and a minor in early childhood education. First grade has been my grade of choice for the majority of my career. I have taught first grade for thirty-one years, teaching second grade once. Teaching young children to read has been my passion.
I have taught at Wilkes for twenty-nine years. This is truly a wonderful place to work. My adult children, Hannah and Mitchell both attended Wilkes too.
My interests center around nature. I enjoy hiking and camping. You might also see me a at park walking my dogs. They are my furry children and I often share stories about them with my students. Gardening is also an interest of mine. I love flowers! On rainy days, I enjoy reading. Mystery novels are my favorite.
