Are you feeling sluggish and tired during the day? Try these tips...
1. Drink plenty of water during the day. Shoot for half your body weight in ounces of water (example - weight 140lbs = 70oz of water) to stay hydrated. Drinking water is crucial to staying healthy and supports the function of every system in your body (including your brain, heart and muscles). Athletes, this does not include what you drink during your workout. It’s important to replenish what you sweat out or you will leave that workout dehydrated.
2. Try to get 7-9 hours of sleep every night. I know it’s challenging but this is where the magic happens! You recover, repair, restore and get stronger during sleep. It doesn't matter if you're working hard on on homework, a school project or got in a good workout….your body needs this time to prepare for the stress and challenges of the next day.
3. Eat protein with every snack and meal. Your body uses it to build and repair tissue, it will fuel your muscles and keep you satiated longer. It promotes healthy brain function and learning and will help improve our mood. Here are a few good choices...lean meats and poultry, fish and seafood, eggs and egg whites, cooked lentils and beans, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, tempeh, tofu, and protein powders (in moderation).
