This 2019-2020 school year begins my fifth year as music teacher at Commodore for Odyssey and Mosaic students in grades K-8. I feel blessed to be a member of the Commodore family! My family and I moved from Charleston, South Carolina to Bainbridge Island in August of 2007 and yes, there was a little culture shock, and y'all will still hear a slight southern accent when I talk, but we love living in the Pacific Northwest.
Before moving to Bainbridge Island, I taught middle and high school band, general music, and choir. I graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in music education and a performance certificate in percussion. I LOVE teaching music to my students and hope that I instill in them a life long love of music and music making.
My husband, Michael, is also an educator. We have two grown children, Meg and Nicholas. Meg graduated in December 2014 from Washington State University with a Bachelor of Music Education degree. She was an elementary music teacher in Issaquah and is now attending graduate school at Washington State University for her master's degree in music with an emphasis in percussion performance. Nick graduated in 2018 from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology and Biochemistry and has moved to Providence, Rhode Island where he is pursuing a PhD in Neuroscience at Brown University.
I love working and living in our community and am looking forward to another amazing musical year at Commodore!
