STEM in the Middle School

  •  Woodward Middle School Does a "Power Hour" of Code (December 2014)

Approximately 520 middle schools students spent an hour on Friday December 12th learning about computer coding.  Woodward staff and administration worked with the BISD Technology Department to plan an all-school Hour of Code activity that was an overwhelming success with students.  The non-profit sponsors the Hour of Code annually to help increase student interest in computer science and expose students to the logical reasoning behind writing code.  Woodward was not alone in this endeavor - all seven BISD campuses participated in Hour of Code activities this year.

Middle School Robotics Club Takes Off! (October 2014)

This August two teachers at BISD offered to take on forming a new middle school-level robotics team to compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge.  The student interest level was HUGE!  The overwhelming student response has made it necessary to create two teams, both being co-coached by Mr. Paul Sullivan and Mr. Sean Eaton.  The teams include students from Woodward Middle School, Hyla, and Odyssey.  The students, coaches, and community mentors have been meeting weekly since the start of school and we are super excited to see what they build for the competition challenge.  You can find out more about the team at their website:
