How to Connect to Our BYOD Network
Bring-Your-Own-Device or "BYOD" allows students and staff to connect their personally-owned wireless capable device (phone, tablet, laptop, etc...) to the school district's wireless network. Before using BYOD, please review BISD policies and procedures. To connect to our BYOD network, devices must first be enrolled with our system. Devices can be enrolled from anywhere with Internet access, whether in-district or outside of the district.
Once enrolled, the device will have access to the BYOD network for 1 year. After a year, device enrollments will expire and you will need to be enrolled again.The district now also offers an open wireless network (BISD-OPEN-WIFI). However, students and staff may prefer to connect to the BYOD network as it will grant access to more websites and resources.Off-campus or using personal data plan:
- On your device, go to: http://bisd303.org/enroll
- Login using your district Windows network username and password
- Follow the directions provided for connecting your device
- Your device should now automatically connect to the "BISD-BYOD" network when on-campus.
BYOD Compatibility as of 7/12/2019
- Connect to the "BISD-OPEN-WIFI" network. (If prompted, do not "remember" or "connect automatically" to this network). Follow the steps above for off-campus or personal data.
Other devices and OS versions may still work by selecting the manual configuration option.If the operating system is not on this list, it most likely is not supported by BISD and will not work on our BYOD network.Please note the following regarding BYOD:
- Windows 7 and later
- Mac OS X 10.10 and later
- Apple iOS 8 and later
- Android 5.0 and later
- Linux 14.04 and later
- Fedora Linux 18 and later
- The district is not responsible for troubleshooting personal devices.
- Internet traffic will be filtered to block inappropriate content as required by law for public schools.
- District traffic will take priority over BYOD traffic.
- District resources such as files and printers will not be available on the BYOD network. (This does not apply to cloud services such as Google Drive and Google Cloud Printers.)
- Services may be blocked or limited on BYOD to ensure optimal performance for the district network. Example: Streaming media, software updates and app downloads may be blocked.
- Traffic can be monitored on the BYOD network and device access can be revoked if there is inappropriate use of district resources.
- Devices not compliant with the BYOD compatibility list will not be supported.
