Announcements

  • An Announcement from Superintendent Peter Bang-Knudsen:

    Hello,

As the end of the summer quickly approaches, I wanted to give you an update on the status of the new Blakely Elementary Building.

While the new building itself is almost complete, the schedule to open the building is very challenging. The City of Bainbridge Island, Kitsap Public Health, BI Fire Department and Labor and Industries are continuing to work toward inspections in order to gain occupancy. To ensure a safe and successful start of school for our Blakely students, we are delaying their first day of school to Monday, September 9th. These extra days provide time for staff to prepare their classrooms, review new safety plans (such as fire drills), and train on new systems and technology. NOTE: All other schools will open as planned on Wednesday, September 4th.

Blakely Parents: Please look for an email from  Reese Ande, Blakely Principal. He will outline the new back-to-school schedule — including a new day and time for the Meet & Greet —as well as parking logistics. BISD is contacting the state to see how this schedule change impacts the last day of school for Blakely students. In some cases, waivers are granted for days missed. As soon as we know more, we will pass on the information to you.

While the building on the Blakey campus is nearing completion, the campus remains an active construction site as workers transition to complete Phase II of the project which includes the play areas and fields, parking lots and landscaping. As planned, this phase will be completed while school is in session. The entire project is scheduled for completion in November 2019.

This was a difficult decision to make and one that wasn’t made lightly. Ultimately, it came down to wanting to provide the best start-of-school experience possible — one where staff members are prepared and ready to welcome students and families. I realize this delay impacts our Blakely families and staff, and I thank them for their continued patience and support. The new building is an incredible learning environment and we can’t wait for the students and staff to enjoy it!

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me.

    Sincerely,

    Peter Bang-Knudsen
    Superintendent

  • School Buses

Bus Routes for the 2019-20 school year are posted!

Please note: Some routes have changed. Please make sure and double-check your pick-up and drop-off times.  https://www.bisd303.org/Page/2562

Effective September 4, 2019, the Transportation Department will eliminate the use of Boarding Passes for students in grades 5-12. Students in grades K-4 will continue scanning their boarding passes as they board and disembark the buses.

We will continue to utilize and support the HereComesTheBus app, providing parents with the ability to watch their bus and receive bus location notifications. NOTE: The HereComesTheBus app is only good for the student's stop as listed in Skyward.  It does not have the capability of monitoring alternate locations.

The app is available in the App Store or Google Play.

    ABC Process
The Annual Back-to-School Check In (ABC) process is now open for the 2019-20 School Year.

The ABC process allows us to collect information about students returning to the district for the next school year. Having an accurate understanding of the number of returning students helps us determine staffing, class size and building capacity to better serve the needs of our students.

    • All current BISD parents: Access the ABC process on your computer through Skyward, or on your mobile device by choosing "Desktop" access in the Skyward mobile app.
    • BISD parents of new students to the district for the 2019-20 School Year (kindergarteners, transfer students): Access the ABC process after July 25, 2019. (That's when new students are added to our system.)
The ABC process also allows the district to fulfill annual notification requirements for public schools in Washington State in an efficient manner.

IMPORTANT: The ABC process must be completed and submitted to the district in order to access your student's class placement for next year. Class placements and schedules will be available in late August.

If your student is not returning next year, please let the office manager at your child's school know.
