Preparation and Discipline

Preparation and discipline in all aspects of our team will be the key to our success. The most important part of this preparation and discipline will take place during practice. We need to learn to be sticklers for the smallest of details. It is amazing how much the small things can add to your team when given the proper attention. These small things can also be terrible distractions when not given the proper attention. With that said, there are a few things that have to happen every day in practice:

  1. BE ON TIME: Practice time is very valuable. If practice starts at noon, you should not still be putting your cleats on at that time. Please try and be 15 minutes early for every practice, so that we do not waste any time.
    1. We practice anywhere from two – five times a week and you are required to be at every practice.
    2. Once games start we will be playing three times a week and practicing on Tuesday, Thursdays and the occasional Saturday.
    3. If I am unable to attend practice due to illness I will contact my respective coach. If I am going to be late I will also contact my coach.

  1. Take Initiative- If equipment is not on the field…go get it. (it will not walk out of the shed by itself!) Be the first in line for a drill. Always ask yourself what needs to be done to improve the situation, and do it.

  1. Be the Hardest working player on the Field:  There is almost never a reason to walk. Moving quickly in everything we do will help maximize our practice time. Two hours is not a very long time. It should be our goal that we work harder in practice than any other team in our league.

  1. Be Coachable: When a coach is talking to you, your eyes will be on the coach, whether you are by yourself or in a group. You can learn from every situation, so even if a coach is not speaking directly to you, make sure you listen. Make a noticeable effort to make changes. Some things are hard to change; however the effort to make the change is not. When Nicole or I are talking you are not.

5.      Be a Good Teammate: For us to reach our goals, the priority must be the team. Always put the needs of the team before your own. Make sure you are always putting energy into the things we are doing, not taking energy away. Always play for the name on the front of the jersey, not the one on the back.

6.      Academic Eligibility: Any student that does not turn in a completed form will be automatically ineligible until the form is in and the student can demonstrate that they are passing five of six classes. If the form does not meet the BHS standards, the student is no longer eligible to play in game competition until they rectify the grades and meet the passing 5/6 standard.

8.      Players cannot drive to and from athletic events…you are allow to ride home with your parents as long as a coach talks to and sees your parent at the game.

9.      Walking on and off the field is a privilege. This is a tradition that needs to be held sacred on our field.

10.  Anyone caught using drugs, drinking alcohol or smoking will face the consequences of the school.
